What eats into a flip

Fees = selling price × (commission % + payment %) + fixed fee Fee GST = fees × GST % on fees Payout = selling price − fees − fee GST Profit = payout − purchase price − shipping − packaging

Most resellers underestimate fees. A 10% commission plus 2% payment fee plus 18% GST on those fees is about 14.2% of the selling price before shipping.

Break-even price

The calculator also shows the lowest price you can sell at without losing money. Below that, you are paying to sell the pair. Set your floor price from it before negotiating.

Tips for better margins

  • Selling directly (Instagram, WhatsApp communities) saves commission but costs time and needs trust — use secure payment and tracked shipping.
  • Popular sizes (UK 7–10 for men) sell faster; very small or very large sizes can carry a premium for rare pairs but take longer.
  • Deadstock (unworn, with box and tags) is worth far more than “worn once”. Keep everything that came in the box.
  • If you resell regularly as a business, GST registration and income tax apply to your profits — speak to an accountant.

Questions people ask

What commission should I enter?
Use the current rate from the platform’s seller page. Rates change and can differ by category and seller level.
Is reselling sneakers legal in India?
Reselling genuine products you own is legal. Selling replicas or counterfeits is not.
Should I include GST on the sale itself?
If you are GST-registered and charge GST to the buyer, use the price excluding GST as the selling price here.
